U.S. rule change may open trillions in 401(k) funds to crypto

The U.S. Division of Labor has proposed a rule that will make it simpler for 401(ok) plans to incorporate different belongings resembling cryptocurrencies, non-public fairness and actual property.

The proposal is in response to President Donald Trump’s government order, launched in August, which directed the Labor Division and the Securities and Trade Fee to facilitate expanded entry to different belongings in 401(ok)s.

If adopted, the rule would mark a shift in how retirement plans are constructed. For years, most 401(ok)s have centered on shares and bonds. The stakes for crypto might be giant.
