Two suspects tied to a South American cargo theft ring had been arrested after Los Angeles police recovered over $3.9 million in stolen items—together with $2.7 million value of Bitcoin mining computer systems intercepted at LAX.

Detectives from the LAPD’s Cargo Theft Unit, working with the Los Angeles Port Police and different businesses, apprehended Oscar David Borrero-Manchola, 41, and Yonaiker Rafael Martinez-Ramos, 25, following an investigation into stolen cargo linked to the South American Theft Group. 

The mining tools was recovered because it was being loaded onto a airplane sure for Hong Kong. The seizure highlights the dimensions and class of ongoing cargo theft operations focusing on high-value tech shipments. 

Bitcoin (BTC) mining computer systems, which require important funding and are sometimes in excessive demand, have develop into a rising goal for organized theft teams.

Authorities additionally recovered $1.2 million in further stolen items, together with tequila, electronics, and pet meals, from storage items within the San Fernando Valley.

Borrero-Manchola was cited and launched, whereas Martinez-Ramos stays in custody on a no-bail warrant.

The investigation is ongoing, with officers warning that extra arrests might observe as legislation enforcement continues efforts to safeguard business cargo routes.
