The Hong Kong Financial Authority alerts the general public about fraudulent web sites and phishing messages impersonating Financial institution Julius Baer, urging warning and reporting of suspicious actions.

The Hong Kong Financial Authority (HKMA) has issued a public warning regarding fraudulent web sites and phishing instantaneous messages impersonating Financial institution Julius Baer & Co. Ltd. This announcement, dated October 22, 2024, goals to safeguard potential victims from falling prey to those scams, in line with the official HKMA launch.

Particulars of the Rip-off

The HKMA emphasizes that these fraudulent actions have been reported and are underneath investigation. The authority advises that legit banks won’t ever ship SMS or emails containing embedded hyperlinks directing prospects to their web sites for transactions. Moreover, banks won’t solicit delicate private information, resembling login credentials or One-Time Passwords, by telephone calls, emails, or SMS messages.

Public Advisory

People who suspect they’ve shared private data or carried out monetary transactions by these fraudulent channels are urged to contact Financial institution Julius Baer utilizing the official contact particulars offered within the financial institution’s press launch. Moreover, victims are inspired to report such incidents to the Hong Kong Police Pressure’s Crime Wing Info Centre at 2860 5012.

Broader Context

This alert from the HKMA is a part of a wider effort to fight digital fraud, which has been on the rise globally. Monetary establishments and regulators worldwide are ramping up their cybersecurity measures to guard customers from more and more refined scams. The HKMA’s proactive stance serves as a reminder of the significance of remaining vigilant within the digital age.
