The US Senate is getting ready to carry a closing vote on March 27 to nullify the Inner Income Service’s (IRS) dealer reporting rule for DeFi operators.
If permitted, the decision might be despatched to President Donald Trump’s desk as early as March 28 for signing, in keeping with Fox reporter Eleanor Terrett reported on March 25, citing three folks conversant in the matter.
The vote follows a procedural requirement after the Senate handed the identical joint decision in a bipartisan supermajority on March 4. 292 lawmakers voted to overturn the dealer rule, whereas 132 opposed it.
The dealer rule, finalized by the IRS in December 2023, aimed to broaden tax reporting obligations by redefining “brokers” to incorporate digital asset platforms, together with DeFi front-end interfaces.
Beneath the regulation, entities categorized as brokers could be chargeable for implementing Know Your Buyer (KYC) requirements, monitoring consumer exercise, and reporting transaction information to the IRS.
