The attacker behind the Verus bridge exploit has returned 4,052 Ether, price about $8.5 million, to the venture’s crew pockets after Verus provided a 1,350 ETH bounty for the restoration of a lot of the stolen funds.

The return represents about 75% of the stolen funds, with the exploiter retaining 1,350 Ether (ETH), price about $2.8 million as a bounty, based on blockchain safety agency PeckShield on Friday.

Verus had provided the bounty a day earlier, saying it will deal with the retained ETH as a reward if the exploiter returned 4,052.4 ETH to the crew handle inside 24 hours.

The restoration reveals how some crypto initiatives attempt to negotiate instantly with exploiters to get well stolen funds, although such offers don’t essentially forestall legislation enforcement or third events from taking motion.

The restoration comes days after the Verus-Ethereum bridge was drained in a solid cross-chain switch exploit, including to a string of bridge and decentralized finance (DeFi) assaults which have saved crypto safety considerations excessive in 2026.

DeFi hacks topped $600 million in April

DeFi hacks surged to a cumulative $634 million price of worth stolen in April, information aggregator DefiLlama reveals. The $280 million Drift Protocol exploit and the $293 million Kelp exploit represented the biggest incidents of the month.
